Counselling and Psychotherapy in Hastings and St Leonards on Sea

Why Therapy?

Many people experience emotional distress in their lives, maybe because of a difficult childhood, past or recent traumas, or current problems affecting daily life. You may be feeling depressed, stressed or anxious, feel that you are in crisis or that life has lost meaning for you. You may be faced with important decisions, know that you want to make changes but are not quite sure how to go about this. Sometimes it’s your relationships, perhaps with family, friends or work colleagues, which are causing unhappiness.

The Therapy

I am trained and fully qualified as a Humanistic Integrative Psychotherapist and Counsellor. Integrative psychotherapy understands the connection between mind, body and soul. As such it ‘integrates’ the well known approaches of psychotherapy and counselling, mainly:

  • Psychodynamic - how your past is affecting you in the present
  • Humanistic - personal growth through increasing self-awareness and authenticity
  • Existential - finding meaning and purpose in your life
  • Gestalt - how changes in one part of your life can affect the whole
  • Transpersonal - connecting to your creative imagination

It means that you will be helped to see how the past is impacting on your present, affecting the way you think and behave now. You will be supported to make changes in the present, explore what your life’s meaning might be and how to grow and develop in the future.

I can also help you to unblock your creativity, find meaning for your life and achieve your potential.

Along with talking about your life you can explore your life creatively by looking at your dreams, through guided visualisations, by looking at your drawing and writing. All of these can help make connection to parts of yourself which have become 'lost' and which need to be re-integrated for you to feel more complete.

This approach of psychotherapy and counselling then looks at your past, present and future, changing unhealthy patterns in your life so that you can feel more ‘whole’ and more completely yourself. It is important to feel accepted and understood for whom you really are and to this aim I provide a supportive environment for self-discovery.

My practice in counselling and psychotherapy is based in Hastings and St Leonards, Silverhill, Ore, Bulverhythe, Fairlight, Bexhill, and surrounding areas in East Sussex.
