Deborah Wearn Counselling and Psychotherapy

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between Counselling and Psychotherapy?

Counselling and psychotherapy are terms that are often used interchangeably. While there are many similarities between the two, counselling tends to be shorter term work with the focus on resolving specific issues or crises, whereas psychotherapy is longer term, focusing on deeper rooted issues and with the aim of facilitating fundamental changes within the whole person. I offer both counselling and psychotherapy to clients, depending on their needs.

How long are the sessions and how frequent?

Both counselling and psychotherapy sessions last for 50 minutes. The sessions are held on a weekly basis, excluding prearranged holidays and sickness or emergencies.

How much should I expect to pay?

Counselling and Psychotherapy are £55 per session for individuals in Hastings and East Sussex.
Counselling and Psychotherapy are £70 per session for couples in Hastings and East Sussex.

(Fees are negotiable for those on low income or benefits.)

How long will I be in Counselling or Psychotherapy?

For counselling I would recommend that there should be a minimum commitment of 12 sessions. These sessions will be focused on a specific goal, on working through current difficulties and how to make changes in your life.

Psychotherapy is working at a deeper level, with more complex and long standing issues, and requires an open-ended timeframe with regular reviews.

What about confidentiality?

Everything that we discuss is confidential. This is so that you feel able to talk about anything, even things you may never have spoken about before, and feel safe doing so. I have weekly supervision in which I may discuss your case but this is also confidential.

Do you have a Code of Ethics?

I work to the code of ethics laid down by the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and I have ongoing weekly supervision.

What do I do next?

You can contact me by phone on 07957 228868 or email me to arrange an initial 50 minute session. We can have a short conversation on the phone beforehand if you would like. The initial session is for us to identify your issues and to see if you would like to work with me. If so, we would then arrange regular sessions.

My practice in counselling and psychotherapy is based in Hastings and St Leonards on Sea, Silverhill, Ore, Bulverythe, Fairlight, and surrounding areas in East Sussex.
